Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Secures First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a difficult year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

It is his first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children together, so to win a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent reactions on court had caused some to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

The opponent defended four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
